Over 300 Class Codes Could See Rate Increases – WCIRB Proposed Rates for 9/1/2025
05/08/2025

The WCIRB (Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau) has proposed new pure premium rates effective September 1, 2025. These rates represent the projected costs associated with workers' compensation claims and loss adjustment expenses for various occupational classifications in California. It is important to compare these proposed rates with the approved rates from the prior policy period (effective September 1, 2024) to understand potential impacts on insurance costs for businesses.

Summary of Changes

  • Average Rate Increase: The average advisory rate is proposed to increase from 3.91 to 4.39, a +12.28% rise.

  • Significant Rate Increases & Decreases: Some classifications face substantial rate hikes (20% or more), impacting the cost of workers' compensation insurance for affected businesses. Other businesses will benefit from rate reductions.
